Southern California Resource Services For Independent Living

Southern California Resource Services for Independent Living (SCRS-IL) is a cross-disability, non-residential, disability rights organization empowering people with any disability to live full and independent lives by committing to building an inclusive community that recognizes the dignity, humanity, and worth of all people. ? The philosophy of independent living is the belief that each person with a disability is unique and has the same civil rights as people who do not have a disability. Centers for Independent Living were created to be run by and for people with disabilities, and offer support, advocacy, and information on empowerment in the attainment of independence from a peer viewpoint, a perspective that was hitherto excluded from participation in the discussion and execution of “services for the disabled.” All SCRS-IL employees are equipped to provide peer counseling and support. Peer support occurs when people provide knowledge, experience, emotional, social or practical help to each other. Through our philosophy, over 80% of our staff have a disability, we share first-hand experience which allows us to make an almost-instant connection. Through established relationships with school districts, charter schools, colleges and other youth-focused entities (such as the Columbia Memorial Space Center), our dedicated youth transition team provides comprehensive and tailored services to meet the needs of our youth. Computer Programs: exposure to different types of technology can help to improve an individuals ability to function independently, both at home and in the community, our computer classes center around the technological needs of our consumers, to find out more give us a call.
