Verdugo Hills Autism Project VHAP

Our services to regional center clients include Intervention Programs (Early Intervention, School-Age and Young Adulthood) and Adaptive Skills Programs. These programs are designed to assist children who have been diagnosed with emotional and developmental disorders that limit their learning and functioning within their home, school and community settings. Intervention services are provided pursuant to an Individual Family Service Plan IFSP/IPP and are coordinated by the local regional center. Some of our programs have partnerships between local regional centers and school districts that provide for better integration between our school and community programs. Our service area consists of the Greater Los Angeles Area and outlying communities that span from San Pedro to Pasadena and from West Los Angeles to North San Fernando Valley. Parents are expected to be active participants in their child’s program. They are taught the basic principles and skills necessary to meet their child’s developmental needs. Parents are coached to identify their child’s core areas of difficulty. They are also trained to implement intervention strategies to promote their child’s cooperation, regulation, and emotional communication. Parents are also provided direct, didactic teaching and experiential training with support via supervision to address their parenting skills and needs. With an understanding of their child’s developmental needs, they can develop competence in supporting, connecting with and challenging their child. A ‘Parent Skills Inventory’ is used to evaluate their current skill level in order to create parenting training goals. Verdugo Counseling Center is an outpatient clinic dedicated to providing a wide range of services for children, adolescents and adults. Our clinical staff provide short and long-term therapy for the following treatment specializations.
