Karen Hammond

I am a certified Independent Facilitator and the mother of a neurodivergent adult who lives in California. I am a trained CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) and a disability rights mediator trained through DREDF (Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund). I have helped many families throughout the past 35 years with IEP, IPP, and most recently SDP. I have volunteered with Special Olympics at many levels including as a Country Manager.

As a business consultant and small business owner, I have developed excellent communication and research skills. I believe that an IF should be knowledgeable, creative, ethical, and supportive. A good Person Centered Plan should be culturally informed, and whole-person-focused. It should cultivate connections inside the system and out. Inform about rights, choice, and control. Create partnership, teamwork, communication, and facilitation. When we work as a team in self-determination we open doors, create opportunities, and improve lives.
