I have been working with people with developmental disabilities since the pilot program for Self Determination began. I received the State’s initial certification as an Independent Facilitator when the pilot launched and participated in additional training/certification in 2022 when the program was offered statewide. There are a lot of moving parts to understand about this program in terms of how it works. Some program elements are still a little confusing, while others are pretty simple and straightforward. It takes a team (you, me, regional center coordinators and financial management services) of creative thinkers working together, to develop the best person centered plan for individuals. The best person centered plans facilitate as much independent living as possible for the program participants.
